A family run business since 1975.

From our inception, The Boswell Company has committed to representing boutique French Oak cooperages from Bordeaux and Burgundy. Our company is dedicated to premium new French oak wine barrels from cooperages that each produce less than 45 barrels daily. Our entrepreneurial spirit pioneered the silicone rubber barrel bung in the American wine industry and introduced French glass wine thieves, stainless steel stirring rods, and sponge rubber hose cleaning balls.

Founder

Jim Boswell

Jim is an old hand in the barrel business. He began his barrel sales career in the ‘70s by introducing Sirugue wine barrels in California with mentorship from Dick Graff of Chalone Vineyard. He subsequently worked with Tonnellerie Radoux, Mendocino Cooperage, Tonnellerie Berger, Tonnellerie de Mercurey, and Kelvin Cooperage. In 1981, he worked with his brother-in-law Jacques Seysses of Domaine Dujac to import the first silicone bung. Today, Jim has retired from day to day operations, but still holds the title of founder.  If you see him, he will likely ensure you are stocked up on toothpicks!

president

Janice Boswell

After five years working in the wine industry around the world, the call came for Janice to join the family business. Growing up with a bottle of client wine always on the dinner table, she was bit by the wine bug at a young age. She attended college at Fordham University in New York graduating with a degree in Environmental Policy. After traveling from Burgundy to South Africa to New Zealand as a cellar rat, she eventually returned to her native Northern California where she worked as an assistant tasting room manager at Bacigalupi Vineyards. Janice spent her days pouring wine and her evenings studying viticulture at Santa Rosa Junior College. After completing several harvests in Sonoma County, most recently at Porter Creek Vineyards, she continues to explore all facets of the wine industry and feels lucky to have worked with so many esteemed producers. Today, she assumes the role of president and is excited to be an ambassador for small family run cooperages with her husband Sean at The Boswell Company.

Vice President

Sean Adamowicz

Sean Adamowicz grew up in Tucson, Arizona but spent his summers in France and Poland, falling in love with the European life at a young age. After graduating from the University of Arizona with a B.S. in Environmental Chemistry, he followed his heart out to Walla Walla, Washington and spent two harvests learning as much as he could about winemaking. Keen to work in Sonoma County and learn more about Pinot Noir, he ended up as an intern at Flowers and eventually met his wife Janice. Together with his partner in wine and in life, Sean explored every opportunity to learn, from the vineyards of South Africa to the red soils of Australia. He now has thirteen harvests under his belt including the familiar names of Domaine Dujac, Two Hands, Staglin, and Rochioli. Sean manages sales for the Central Coast of California, Sonoma County and Oregon and looks forward to working with you to determine the best barrels for your wines.
